Trim & drill jig

A fixture that locates a cured composite part on datums so it's trimmed and drilled the same way every time.

The challenge

Cured composite parts need trimming and drilling, and doing it by hand makes every part slightly different. A jig fixes the part on known datums so trim lines and holes land in the same place on every part.

What we did

Render: jig design with datums

Stage 1

Datums & locating

We chose datum points on the part and designed locating blocks and clamps around them.

[Your design decisions.]

Stage 2

Build

We manufactured the jig with the tooling method that suited the part and the quantities.

Stage 3

Inspection & shipping

We inspected the jig, photographed it for sign-off, then packed and shipped it.

[What was checked.]

The result

[Outcome: consistency, time saved per part, numbers if you have them.]
